Researcher from Academic Center of the Faculty of Philology of Saint Tikhons University at conference on Faroe Islands: History, Culture, Literature

From October 23-24, 2017, the first international academic on the Faroe Islands: History, Culture, and Literature took place at the Institute of World Literature of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The conference saw presentations by linguists and literary scholars on questions related to the Faroe Islands.

Director of Distance Learning Institute at eLearning Stakeholders and Researchers Summit

From October 10-11, 2017, the international eLearning Stakeholders and Researchers Summit took place in Moscow. The conference was organized by the Higher School of Economics (HSE) in conjunction with the Web-based Coursera course platform. The Very Rev. Archpriest Gennady Egorov, Director of the Institute of Distance Learning at Saint Tikhons Orthodox University of the Humanities, moderated a session on Communication in Online Learning.

Russian-language courses begun at Saint Tikhons University

October 1, 2017 marked the beginning of instruction in Russian as a Foreign Language (RFL) as organized by the Department of International Relations at Saint Tikhons University. This year, students from Italy and Japan registered to take part in these two-month-long courses.

 
Saint Tikhons Universitys Serbia Club hosts Belgrade lecturer

On September 22, 2017, the Serbia Club at Saint Tikhons Orthodox University of the Humanities hosted a lecture by Dr. Vladislav Puzovich, and Senior Member of the Faculty of Theology at the University of Belgrade, on Russian Academic Theology and Serbs up to 1917: Russian Pathways in Serbian Theology. The event also included the presentation of his new book, a monograph on The Education of Serbs at Russian Theological Academies from 1849-1917.

Fourth International Festival of Youth and Childrens Choirs, entitled I shall sing unto the Lord in my life

The I shall sing unto the Lord in my life Festival has been taking place for ten years, and this year it was dedicated to the centenary of the Local Council of the Russian Church (1917-18) and the 25th anniversary of Saint Tikhons Orthodox University of the Humanities. This was the first year when the Festival will take place in the historical Moscow Eparchy House building (6 Lihov Lane, Moscow), now the main building of Saint Tikhons Orthodox University of the Humanities. It will be held from November 25 to December 16.
Saint Tikhons University teachers take part in international conference in Poland

From December 13-16, 2017, the tenth annual Conference for Opposing Destructive Sects took place in Suprasl Monastery near Bialystok, Poland. With the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill, the Russian Orthodox Church was represented at the forum by Saint Tikhons University professor Alexander Dvorkin.

On September 4-5, 2017, Saint Tikhons University Professor Alexander Dvorkin, D.Phil. and D.Theol., participated in the yearly Orthodox Book Festival in Varna, Bulgaria, where he also held the Bulgarian launch of his book Sectology. This year, the Festival was dedicated to youth problems and youth mission work.
Over 130 doctoral students begin distance-learning programs

The entrance examinations for the Fall Semester at Saint Tikhons Universitys Institute for Distance Learning have come to an end for the most sought-after courses, the Masters degree in Theology and the Continuing Education course in Fundamentals of Orthodoxy.

From July 28-30, the 3rd International Orthodox Prosvetitel Choral Festival of Saint Vladimir took place on Valaam Island. It saw the participation of the Chamber Choir of the Faculty of Church Music of Saint Tikhons Orthodox University of the Humanities.

The Ministry for Education and Science has released the results of its annual review of institutions of higher education in the Russian Federation. Saint Tikhon´s University was among them and cleared the required threshold for all the main assessment criteria.
Discussion at Saint Tikhons about creating sect studies program
On June 22, 2017, an international colloquium was held on the question of creating an intra-Orthodox educational program for sect studies. Delegates from the Eastern Orthodox Churches, His Eminence Bishop Panteleimon of Orehovo-Zuyevo, and professors from Saint Tikhons University discussed current problems faced by Orthodox missionaries owing to the activities of sectarian movements.

Presentation by Saint Tikhons assistant professor in Sofia, Bulgaria
From June 9-11, 2017, the academic St. John of Rila International Conference took place in Sofia, Bulgaria, organized by Saint Georges Church and the Faculty of Theology in Sofia University, with the permission of Patriarch Neophytus of Bulgaria. This years conference was the first to be held and was dedicated to the memory of Saint John of Rila, one of the heavenly patrons of Bulgaria. Saint Tikhons Orthodox University of the Humanities was represented by the lead researcher in the Department of Modern History of the Russian Orthodox Church, Andrei Alexandrovitch Kostryukov.
Paper about architecture of Moscow Eparchy House given at international symposium
On June 4, 2017, the head of the Department of History and Theory of Christian Art, Ariadna Alexandrovna Voronova, gave a paper on the architecture and regeneration of the Moscow Eparchy House at an international conference in Serbia.
First theology degree awarded to Theology Faculty Dean Fr. Pavel Khondzinsky
On Thursday, June 1, Archpriest Pavel Khondzinsky, Doctor of Divinity and Dean of the Faculty of Theology at Saint Tikhons Orthodox University of the Humanities, was awarded the first Candidates Degree in Theology (degree class 26.00.01) in contemporary Russia. Fr. Pavels viva voce exam was conducted in the Ss. Cyril and Methodius Theological Institute for Post-graduate Studies.
Italian Week at Saint Tikhons University
On May 29, 2017, in the Conciliar Chamber of the main building of Saint Tikhons Orthodox University of the Humanities, the Universitys Italian Week was formally opened. This series of academic and cultural was dedicated to the tenth anniversary of collaboration between Saint Tikhons University and the Catholic University of Milan (University of the Sacred Heart or UCSC).
Three-minute theses
On May 20, 2017, the main building of Saint Tikhons Orthodox University of the Humanities played host to the third annual Three-minute Thesis student contest. The participants included teachers and students from various Moscow universities.

On May 15, 2017, a lecture on How Science and Art Interpret the World was given by the well-known Italian professor Evandro Agazzi in the main building of Saint Tikhons Orthodox University of the Humanities (Lihov Lane, Moscow). The event was attended by Vladimir Shmelyov, the Universitys Deputy Rector for Innovation, Olga Strada, head of the Italian Cultural Institute in Moscow, as well as visitors, students, and teachers of Saint Tikhons University.
Meeting of Greece-Cyprus Club
On May 10, 2017, in the Conciliar Chamber of the main building of Saint Tikhons University in Lihov Lane, an annual session of the Saint Tikhons University Greece-Cyprus Club was convened. The event was dedicated to the life of Orthodox parishes in Greece and Cyprus, and was organized by the Universitys Department of International Relations, with support from the Center for Spiritual Education.

On April 6-7, 2017, Daria Diachenko, who is working to create an electronic dictionary with the support of the Saint Tikhons University Development Fund, presented a paper at the Institute of Linguistics of Russian State University of the Humanities with a paper on The Dialect of Gammalsvenskby Village: Some Results of Studying its Vocabulary.

Various Easter church services and festive events were held at Saint Tikhons University. The Very Rev. Archpriest Vladimir Vorobyov, the head of the University, led the night liturgy in the Church of Saint Nicholas at Kuznetsy, gathering together the clergy of the University, its teachers and professors, researchers, and students.
Faculty of Theology conducts annual student conference
On April 1, 2017, on Saturday of the Fifth Week in Lent, an annual conference of undergraduate and post-graduate students of the Faculty of Theology was conducted in Saint Tikhons University as per the established tradition. This year, in addition to representatives of Saint Tikhons, the conference saw participation by visitors from Saint Petersburg Theological Academy, Moscow State University, Saratov State University, and Voronezh Theological Seminary.

Saint Tikhons dean participates in Paris conference
On March 17-18, 2017, a Russian Orthodox seminary in France organized and conducted an interdisciplinary, international conference on Philosophical and Religious Thought in Russia and France in the 19th and 20th centuries. It was held as part of an ongoing seminar that is collaboration with French and Russian universities and centers of academic research.
Russian Avant-Garde as Revolution in Art

On March 14, 2017, a lecture was given by a senior teacher of the Faculty of Church Arts at Saint Tikhons, Nina Sekachova, on the Russian Avant-Garde of the 1910s: A Revolution in Art, as part of the lecture series on the 1917 revolutions.

Week of Russian Literary Culture and Teaching

From March 6-10, 2017, a Week of Russian Literary Culture and Methods of Teaching It in Schools was held in the Faculty of Pedagogy of Saint Tikhons Orthodox University of the Humanities. It was dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the birth of Valentin Grigorievitch Rasputin (the famous Russian author not to be confused with the spiritual guide of the Russian Imperial family). The event in question was a continuation of the tradition, begun by the Faculty in 2013, of holding weeks dedicated to different topics relating to the Russian language.

Visit by Students of Pittsburg Seminary

From 27 February to 9 March, Saint Tikhons was visited by students of the Pittsburg Theological Seminary (in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, USA), led by Prof. John Burgess, a long-standing friend of the university. Prof. Burgess has been teaching systematic theology in the seminary for many years already, as well as an elective course on Orthodoxy. At the beginning of the year, the students decided to make a trip to Russia in order to become more closely acquainted with Russian history, Russian culture, and the Russian Orthodox Church. This year, the plan for the trip was packed full of interesting events and day-trip.

Japanese Academics Visit Saint Tikhons
On March 3, 2017, a group of academics from Japan visited Saint Tikhons University. The visit came about as part of a project whose purpose is to look into reforms of the system of teacher training and continuing education in Russia and other former Soviet countries. The group consisted of Yukiko Sawano, Professor of Pedagogy at the University of the Sacred Heart, Tokyo; Madoka Inoue, Professor of Religious Studies at Seisen Womens University, Tokyo; and Kuanysh Tastanbekova, a specialist in international research at the University of Tsukuba, Ibaraki. They had the opportunity to meet the Dean of the Faculty of Pedagogy at Saint Tikhons, Tatiana Vladimirovna Sklyarova.

On February 21, 2017, Sergei Firsov, Doctor of History and Professor of Philosophy of Religion and Religious Studies at Saint Petersburg State University, delivered a lecture in the Conciliar Chamber of the main building of Saint Tikhons University.
Saint Tikhons students complete internship in Italy
From January 26 to February 17, 2017, Saint Tikhons University students Eugenia Gromova and Michael Desyatov spent time getting teaching experience on an internship in Orsoline Sancarlo School, in Como, Italy. Ms. Gromova and Mr. Desyatov are studying for a Masters degree in Pedagogy at Saint Tikhons with their specialization being in Communication in Religious Pedagogical Culture, under the aegis of [S. O.] Divnogortseva, Doctor of Pedagogy.
Second year for Saint Tikhons student ball
On February 19, with the blessing of the Rector of the university, Archpriest Vladimir Vorobyov, the second Student Ball of Saint Tikhons University, took place in the Izmailovsk Kremlin. The ball was dedicated to the bicentenary of the birth of the great Russian poet, author, and playwright, Count Alexis Constantinovitch Tolstoy.
Experts in Russian Church history take part in Helsinki conference
On February 12-13, 2017, the Eleventh International Educational Conference in honor of the Feast of the Meeting of the Lord (Sretenie/Candlemas), was held in the Russian Cultural Center in Helsinki, Finland. The conference this year was dedicated to bishops and heroes of the Orthodox Christian faith from Scandinavia and northwestern Russia.
